Karen Zimmers

An award-winning artist, Karen A. Zimmers was born in Schenectady County, New York, where she still lives and works. After a successful career as a technology project manager, Karen now devotes her time to creative expression, experimenting with various mediums such as acrylics, oil, watercolor, and alcohol inks. Most recently she has used pastels and mixed media to design collages, abstract art, and art-to-music images. Karen also enjoys knitting, which she learned at age seven from her mother.

In her practice, Karen specializes in Nature scenes and gains inspiration from her youth and adult travels, both internationally and around the US and Capital District.  Many of Karen’s works are stirred by locations and views that she captured during exploits with her art assistant, a thirteen- year- old Malti-poo “puppy” named Violet.

Complex yet serene, Karen’s nature work is colorful seeking to expose a delicate equilibrium between a sense of balance, visual calm, and an appreciation for life which was enhanced by her experience as a breast cancer warrior. She encourages herself to go outside her comfort zone and initiate more imageries of emotions, dreams, and mirages.

Karen is a member of the Albany Artists Group, Colonie Art League, Schenectady Art Society, Southern Saratoga Art Society, Bethlehem Art Association, and the East Bank Arts Alliance. Her work can be viewed throughout the Northeast at various venues and art shows.

In addition to her art training, Karen holds a MS in Legal Studies, BS in Social Sciences, AS in Liberal Arts, AAS in Paralegal Studies, and AAS in Criminal Justice.

Karen A. Zimmers resides in Niskayuna, New York.
